Penis Party

?Party Rock Anthem? is a smash, but ?Sexy and I Know It? is, in a rout, the duo?s best song. The lyrics are about strutting one?s stuff: coming as you are, feeling desirable, and performing that desirability with liberated, goofball gusto. ?When I walk in the spot, this is what I see/ Everybody stops and they staring at me,? Redfoo raps. ?I got a passion in my pants and I ain?t afraid to show it/ I'm sexy and I know it.? Like the Potheads trailer, the ?Sexy and I Know It? video features some impressive Redfoo physical comedy that elevates the whole enterprise. With his crotch framed in an extreme close-up, he tears away leopard-print boardshorts to reveal leopard-print Speedos beneath. His package front-and-center, he humps at the air, his penis flopping around like a fish in the bottom of a boat. This move turns out to have a name?the Wiggle?and listeners are encouraged, later in the song, to perform it themselves. ?Wiggle-wiggle-wiggle-wiggle-wiggle?yeah!? Redfoo chants. Women are not explicitly discouraged from wiggling, but it?s clear they?re not the target demographic: In the video?s climactic wiggle-off, 10 men face each other and throw their penises in each other?s directions. There?s something delightful about the whole junk-drunk spectacle. It?s not like guys needed an anthem of penile uplift, of course?dicks are funny, but they are hardly underdogs?but not since The Full Monty has a gang of ostensible heterosexuals whirled schlongs with such winning camaraderie and heart-melting glee.

Same Sex Romance Comes to a Galaxy Far, Far Away (Newsarama.com)

Same-sex relationships are coming to the "Star Wars" universe, courtesy of video game developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts' new massively multiplayer online role- playing game (or "MMORPGs" or "MMOs" for short), "Star Wars: The Old Republic," and the decision is getting people talking.

MMOs are games that create immersive virtual environments in which millions of players can interact with computer-generated characters as well as characters created by fellow gamers. While this is BioWare's first MMO, the developer is known among fans for the emphasis they place on romantic relationships between characters in their single-player role-playing games. In the past, BioWare games have featured same-sex relationships between men and women, and in the case of the immensely popular sci-fi game "Mass Effect," relationships between men and women with an asexual alien.

BioWare originally announced that players and their companions in "Star Wars: The Old Republic" would only be able to experience mixed-gender romantic relationships. After many inquiries from fans asking the developer to explain the decision, earlier this week a new forum post by Stephen Reid, the senior online community manager for the game, showed up on the company's official website announcing that those fans had been heard and same-sex romance will be added to the game.

BioWare's statement explained that while the game will still launch with only male/female relationships, they will be adding same gender romance options in future updates.

"Due to the design constraints of a fully voiced MMO of this scale and size, many choices had to be made as to the launch and post-launch feature set. Same gender romances with companion characters in 'Star Wars: The Old Republic' will be a post-launch feature. Because 'The Old Republic' is an MMO, the game will live on through content expansions which allow us to include content and features that could not be included at launch, including the addition of more companion characters who will have additional romance options."

"Companion characters" are computer-controlled characters that follow player-created characters around the virtual world, aiding them as gamers maneuver through the story.

The response to BioWare's announcement has been massive. There are 326 pages of comments as of Friday afternoon on the official "Star Wars: The Old Republic" forum alone. They range from "thank you for listening to our requests" to "how dare you expose my children to this."

The game has no firm release date, only a release window of "holiday 2011." It has also already received an ESRB rating of "T for Teen," meaning the game is recommended for players 13 and older. Neither facts have stopped detractors from crying foul, such as John Nolte on the blog "Big Hollywood," who starts his post on the subject with "Say goodbye to your child's innocence," and ends with the inaccurate proclamation, "Announcing the gay relationships AFTER the game has been sold is pure bait and switch."

The game already has reportedly broken preorder records for publisher Electronic Arts.

Dry months raise drought concern

The drought that has affected parts of England since June could last into next summer if there is insufficient winter rain, the Environment Agency has said.

Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman says water companies need to prepare now for the possibility.

Anglian Water has been granted a permit to pump water from the River Nene into one of its reservoirs on Thursday.

A lack of rainfall over the past few months means that groundwater levels are still falling in many areas.

The Environment Agency says that even if there is average rainfall over the winter and spring, parts of central, eastern and south-eastern England are unlikely to see a full recovery from drought conditions in 2012.

Trevor Bishop, head of water resources at the Environment Agency, told BBC News: "There are people putting up Christmas decorations in homes and businesses down the road and we're standing here in December talking about drought and that's an unusual situation.

"The ground below our feet is still dry, and at this time of year we would expect it to be fully saturated and the rainfall helping to replenish supplies, ready for next year."

Water companies in the worst-affected areas are having to use more river water to top up reservoirs that should really be seeing far more rain at the moment.

Anglian Water has been granted permission to pump up to seven million litres a day until next March into its Pitsford Reservoir, which supplies around 600,000 customers in the Northampton area.

South East Water has applied to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to increase the amount of water it abstracts from the River Ouse.

It says it has carried out comprehensive environmental studies to make sure any impacts on the river are minimised.

Lee Dance from South East water said: "Faced with a worsening drought situation, and with no sign of significant rainfall, and customer demand for water continuing - it is vital we take immediate steps to protect Ardingly Reservoir and our customers' water supplies."

The government says water companies, businesses, farmers and the public in the areas that have seen the driest conditions need to plan now for next summer.

"This is a signal for everyone to get prepared, that if we don't get good rainfall this winter it will be a challenge next spring and summer," warned Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman.

The Environment Agency will carry out a further assessment on the likelihood of a continuing drought early next year.

Afghan president pardons imprisoned rape victim

(AP) ? Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Thursday pardoned an Afghan woman serving a 12-year prison sentence for having sex out of wedlock after she was raped by a relative.

Karzai's office said in a statement that the woman and her attacker have agreed to marry. That would reverse an earlier decision by the 19-year-old woman, who had previously refused a judge's offer of freedom if she agreed to marry the rapist.

Her plight was highlighted in a documentary that the European Union blocked because it feared the women featured in the film would be in danger if it were shown.

More than 5,000 people recently signed a petition urging Karzai to release the woman. She had the man's child while in prison and raised her daughter behind bars, which is common among women imprisoned in Afghanistan.

A statement released by Karzai's office says that after hearing from judicial officials, the decision was made to forgive the rest of the sentence she received for having sex out of wedlock, a crime in Afghanistan. The presidential statement did not say when the woman was to be released or how much prison time had been pardoned.

The woman told The Associated Press in an interview last month that she had hoped that attention generated by the EU film might help her get released. With the film blocked, she said that she was losing hope and considering marrying her rapist as a way out. She said her attacker was pressuring her to stop giving interviews.

About half of the 300 to 400 women jailed in Afghanistan are imprisoned for so-called "moral crimes" such as sex outside marriage, or running away from their husbands, according to reports by the United Nations and research organizations. Fleeing husbands isn't considered a crime in Afghanistan.

The EU welcomed the woman's release.

"Her case has served to highlight the plight of Afghan women, who 10 years after the overthrow of the Taliban regime often continue to suffer in unimaginable conditions, deprived of even the most basic human rights," the European Union's Ambassador and Special Representative to Afghanistan, Vygaudas Usackas, said.

He said the EU hoped the same mercy would be extended to other women serving similar terms. Usackas said he planned to raise the issue of Afghan women's rights at an international conference on Afghanistan Dec. 5 in Bonn, Germany.

Some of the most severe restrictions women faced under the Taliban, like a ban on attending schools and having to have a male escort to venture outside the home, were done away with when the radical Islamic movement was driven from power in 2001. But Afghanistan remains a deeply conservative and male-dominated society, meaning women are still sold to husbands and rights enshrined in law are often ignored in practice.
